Bhutto served as the 4th President of Pakistan from 20 December 1971 to 14 August 1973. In the year 1973, his party Pakistan Peoples Party won the Elections and he became the 9th Prime Minister of Pakistan.
General Zia-ul-Haq removed Bhutto from power in 1977. Bhutto was found guilty of murder on March 18, 1978, and given the death penalty. In the year 2011, PPP filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan to open the Bhutto case again.
On 6 March 2024, the Supreme Court of Pakistan responded that Bhutto was not provided a fair trial.
